Non-Renewal

A carrier's decision not to offer renewal terms when a policy expires, ending the relationship at the end of the current term.

Non-renewal differs from cancellation: coverage runs to its natural expiration rather than stopping early. Carriers non-renew for loss history, appetite changes, or wholesale withdrawal from a class or geography, and most states require advance notice.

For the agency, non-renewal is a remarketing deadline. It is also a book-level signal — a cluster of non-renewals from one carrier usually means an appetite shift that will affect many accounts, not just one.
